Karrawirra-tya-illa meaning “red gum camping place”, uses a mixture of Kaurna and Peramangk languages to recognise and respect the First Nations People who used this place for meeting, birthing, and hunting and gathering within the area’s red gum riparian flats. Nestled within native bushland between Native Forest Reserves, this remote campground is accessible by hikers and cyclists using the Para Wirra Link via Cattleyard Track. The Para Wirra Link via Cattleyard Track commences at Para Wirra Conservation Park and traverses Old Kersbrook Forest before entering South Para Reservoir. Keen walkers can continue on the South Para to Mount Crawford Forest trail from South Para Reservoir to finish at Rocky Paddock Campground in Mount Crawford Forest. This is a ‘No fires’ campground. Fuel stoves only. No vehicle access is available. ForestrySA manages 10,000ha of plantation forest in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
